Scope and Contents

Collection contains a report card for Louise Britt for the Spring semester of 1940-41 at Southwestern University, followed by two copies of a program for Louise Britt’s Senior Speech Recital in the Library Auditorium from 1944. A newspaper from 1941 titled the “Interscholastic Leaguer” with an article about Louise Britt from her time at Kelton High School and a newspaper from 1943 titled “The Wheeler Times” with an article about Louise Britt and her selection in the 1943-44 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges” are also included.

Biographical / Historical

Louise Britt [Carvey] was born Vera Louise Britt in 1923 in Wheeler County, Texas. She attended Southwestern University from 1940-1944 and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, where she served as its president. Louise Britt married Frank Carvey, Jr. in 1944 after meeting him at Southwestern University. She was involved in the arts, philanthropy, and conservation and environmental organizations throughout her life. She died in 2021.
