Garland Barcus Scrapbook
Scope and Contents
This scrapbook created by Garland Barcus contains hundreds of black-and-white photographs primarily documenting the campus, students, and student life at Southwestern University, as well as scenes from Georgetown and nearby areas, including the San Gabriel River. Additional locations depicted include the Alamo and other San Antonio missions, and Austin. Most photographs are identified, with some including captions.
Subjects represented include homecoming events, parades, individual students, aspects of student life, hazing practices (including paddling), fraternities, male and female athletic teams, as well as images of homes, stores, and other buildings in the area.
The final pages of the scrapbook contain memorabilia, including flyers promoting football games, student election campaigns, debates, concerts, events, lectures, and a large foldout poster for a university carnival on June 6 with the slogan, "students go on strike… to take in the university carnival." Also included is an image of Mood Hall with an incomplete roof.
