Biographical / Historical
All materials provided by the Texas Highway Department–Travel and Information Division.
The Texas highway department began printing a magazine called Texas Highways in 1953. The magazine originally focused on highways, but in 1962 focus expanded into tourist material and general stories. In 1974 the magazine was converted to a travel publication.
There was a commission in 1963 for $130,000 to increase tourism to Texas as the state was not encountering the same travel boom as the rest of the country.
