Caswell House

 Collection
Identifier: MSS-0092

Scope and Contents

The three booklets provide an in depth history of the Caswell House through writings conducted by the previous owner while she lived at the Westminister Retirement Community. The histories are dated 2005-2021. The two notes included are related to the house: one is a letterhead from a woman who ran a social work and family therapy clinic out of the house and the other is an invitation to an event being held at the house.

2005: A History, Content note: there is language used in Larkam's history that is of its time, but is now sensitive and unused.Contains a brief history of the Caswell family and a moderate description of the house's architecture, written by Beverly McCosham Larkam–the resident of the Caswell House who applied the house to be part of the National Register of Historic Preservation Act. Following the brief written portion is a mulitude of photos, floorplans, correspondences, and application copies. These all relate to Caswell House or the application for the house to the National Register of Historic Buildings.

2017: An account of why Beverly McCosham Larkam moved into the Caswell House. Larkam details issues in the restoration of the house and zoning–as well as an unfrotuante fire that occured in 2015.

2021: A History III contains a condensed version of A History and A History II. Larkam also details some extra moments from her life in the house, such as her encounter with a man that she worried was a murderer. The writing is organized by year.

2025: an invitation to a showing of the house.
